VACCINATION SERVICES

Many people book their flu vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination around the same time, particularly before winter. A common question is whether both vaccines can be administered during the same appointment.

Flu and COVID Boosters - Can I Get Both Together?

Yes. Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines can generally be administered at the same visit. Your pharmacist will review your vaccination history, eligibilty and current recommendations to determine which vaccines you're due for and whether co-administration is appropriate.

The short answer

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

Under the National Immunisation Program, funded influenza vaccination is available for eligible groups including:

  • Adults aged 65 years and over
  • Pregnant women
  • Children aged 6 months to 5 years
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • People with certain medical conditions

If you're unsure whether you're eligible, our pharmacist can help check.

Who should consider flu vaccination?

COVID-19 vaccination recommendations vary depending on:

  • Your age
  • Medical conditions
  • Vaccination history
  • Previous COVID-19 infection

Current recommendations are reviewed regularly, so it's important to discuss your individual circumstances with a healthcare professional before vaccination.

What about COVID-19 boosters?

In many cases, yes.

Receiving influenza and COVID-19 vaccines during the same visit can reduce the number of appointments required and help ensure vaccinations aren't delayed.

Your pharmacist will confirm whether co-administration is appropriate based on your health history and current vaccination recommendations.

Can they be given during the same appointment?

As with any vaccination, some people experience temporary reactions after receiving a vaccine.

These may include:

  • Soreness at the injection site
  • Tiredness
  • Mild headache
  • Mild muscle aches

Your pharmacist will discuss what to expect and provide post-vaccination advice during your appointment.

Many people choose to book influenza vaccination before winter, typically during autumn.

However, influenza can continue circulating throughout the season, so vaccination may still be appropriate later in the year. If you're also due for a COVID-19 booster, your pharmacist can discuss timing during your consultation.

A consultation fee applies for this service. Please view our current pricing for the latest fees and charges.

When is the best time to book?

Do I need separate appointments for flu and COVID vaccines?

Not necessarily. In many cases, both vaccines can be administered during the same appointment.

Do I need a prescription?

No. Pharmacist-administered influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations do not typically require a prescription.

Can the pharmacist check what vaccines I'm due for?

Yes. Our pharmacist can review your vaccination history and discuss current recommendations based on your circumstances.
