eScripts Explained - How to Send Yours to Us
An eScript is a digital prescription sent to your phone or email instead of paper prescription. You can send your eScript token to Gerringong Pharmacy by SMS, email, through the Medadvisor app, or by showing the QR code in store.
The short answer
When your doctor issues an electronic prescription, you'll receive a secure token by SMS or email.
This token contains a QR code that represents your prescription. When we dispense your medicine, the token is used and a new token is generated if repeats remain.
If you lose the token, your prescriber or dispensing pharmacy may be able to resend it.
How eScripts work
You can send your prescription to Gerringong Pharmacy in several ways:
- Forward the SMS or email containing the token
- Use the Medadvisor app to manage and order prescriptions
- Show the QR code in store when collecting your medicines

Three ways to use your eScript with us
No GP appointment needed for many conditions.
An Active Script List (ASL) stores your current electronic prescriptions in one secure list.
Rather than keeping track of individual SMS tokens, authorised pharmacies can access your active prescriptions directly once you've provided consent.
This can be particularly helpful if you take multiple regular medicines.
What is an Active Script List?
Book online or drop in during opening hours.
No GP appointment needed for many conditions.
Many patients prefer to keep their prescriptions on file with the pharmacy.
This means repeat medicines can often be organised with a phone call, message or app request, making regular medicine management more convenient.
Scripts on file can also work alongside medication packs and home delivery services where appropriate.

If your token is lost or accidentally deleted, don't worry.
In many cases:
- Your prescriber can issue a replacement token
- The pharmacy that last dispensed the prescription may be able to assist

What if I lose my token?
Is an eScript as valid as a paper prescription?
Yes. Electronic prescriptions are a recognised prescription format in Australia and can be used in place of paper prescriptions.
What happens if I accidentally delete my token?
A replacement token may be available from your prescriber or dispensing pharmacy.
Can I still use paper prescriptions?
Yes. Both paper prescriptions and electronic prescriptions continue to be accepted.
